Ruidoso Wildfires Force Evacuations, Burn Thousands of Acres

Two Blazes Currently Active

Two wildfires that began Monday in Southern New Mexico have forced the evacuations of thousands of people and burned over 13,000 acres.

South Fork Fire

The South Fork Fire was discovered at around 9 a.m. Monday on the Mescalero Reservation west of the village of Ruidoso. The fire has burned over 13,921 acres and is currently at zero percent containment.

Salt Fire

The Salt Fire is also burning in Southern New Mexico. The fire is smaller than the South Fork Fire, but has still burned over 10,000 acres. The fire is currently at 20 percent containment.

Evacuations

The Village of Ruidoso has ordered all residents to evacuate due to the South Fork Fire. The evacuation order also includes nearby communities such as Lincoln and Capitan.
