Harris warns Israel of consequences if it launches ground offensive

US Vice President Kamala Harris has warned Israel that there will be consequences if it moves forward with a major ground offensive in Gaza.

Harris made the comments during a press conference in London on Sunday, where she was asked about the situation in the Middle East.

She said that the US is "deeply concerned" about the violence in Gaza and called on both sides to de-escalate the situation.

"We believe that a ground offensive would be a devastating blow to the people of Gaza, and we urge Israel to reconsider its plans," Harris said.

She also said that the US is "committed to a two-state solution" to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and that it believes that "peace can only be achieved through negotiation and compromise."

Harris's comments come as Israel continues to carry out airstrikes on Gaza in response to rocket fire from Hamas. The violence has killed dozens of people, including civilians.

The US has been urging both sides to de-escalate the situation and has offered to help mediate a ceasefire.
